Summer Plans

Am going to be stuck in Chicago for 2 months in the summer for some REU/VIGRE, aka math research opportunity. It aiant exactly research, cos face it, im an undergrad that knows nothing. Its more like summer school, but FOC, without credit, and would be nice on a resume.

Only prob is that the grants are available for US citizens, so poor lil me would need to get $$ somehow. Luckily, my 'nice' math pirate prof has promised me a job, doing what i have no idea (not even worthy to scrub test-tubes). Now its time to figure out whether i need to fill up for one of those stupid 'Im a international student working in summer in the US' forms. Yea, all the more reason to curry favor my prof.

Its going to be 8 weeks long of lectures, tutorials and stuff. Would be learning linear algebra/ algebra (as introductory course), plan to take a discrete mathematics sequence (aka olympiad math, so would be quite easy for me) and maybe 1 more course that attract my attention. Looks like they have a potentially interesting courselist put up, but varies from year to year, so depends on my luck.

So those considering staying on in Chi, contact me and we'd see if we can get a nifty place somewhere, pref nearby to uni. And for those who want to do some travelling and wanna come to chi, there shd be a place for u to crash for a few days.

So, my parents (who scarily have been following every single post and printing them out singly), consider yourself warned. I'd only be back in mid-aug, if at all. [You would think that they could wait for several posts to come out first, then print them out, esp since my posts are so long ... but, no ... they have to kill some trees] P.S. Luv ya :-)

And there goes my hope of adding guide to my list of roles (contestant, observer) at an olympiad. For those Singaporeans who are spending summer back in sg, do considering being a tour guide for IPhO'06. Email me for a list of ideas of stuff that i wanted to do as a tour guide! (Its the guides that are the most memorable part of the olympiad experience, and being in Singapore, loads of stuff can be done.) I can still vividly remember my guides Po from USA, Funa from UK and Angel from Mexico. Salutations, wherever you guys are.
