First 2 days
Argh, com giving me so much problems these few days. Hangs on startup thanks to the stupid fingerprint scanner, then MSN and IE also problematic... Oh well, bo bian, life still goes on... Am so swamped over with stuff now, cant believe that its only the first 2 days of school
Woke up at 6am yest. Sleeping with Ivan has screwed up my sleep cycle. Woke up at 730 today, seems to be improving. But considering how i normally set my alarm for 0800, wait till it rings 6 times until 0830 then i wake up ... well, with all the work to do, sleeping late should mean that i would wake up later.
Sat in 3 hon calc classes to determin which one id audit. Listened to 3 different versions of the theory of Taylor polynomials, aka derived from different means. Interesting. It depends on what aspect of maths the pple like. Decided that id audit stephen wang's class. This guy is part of 1996 252! And lectures are quite interesting. Helps that he stayed with the class from last quarter, so he knows them and jokes ard already.
Din understand what was happening in hon anal right from the start. Defined convolution of 2 functions via integration, and lost me after that. Need to put in lots of effort for this class all over again. Friday is request day, aka we submit request of what we want to see done during the quarter and he'd consider doing it ... last time that happened, we got stuck with the haar measure and a headache.
prof for intro to game theory is an amazing scatterbrain and talk cock person. he talked about morals, shskesphere, poetry, etc, all unrelated to game theory. Managed to fall asleep during his class on the first lesson, can u believe that? oh well, when he talks abt game theory proper, hes good enough. Guess id audit his class, then take grad game theory sometime ... which means my schedule needs to be reshuffled again lol. am going to ignore it though, way too troublesome. I just know that there are way too many courses that i wanna audit/take, and not enough time.
had hon anal problem session yest night, went through the exam. something short circuited in my brain that day, cos the solutions that i wrote up after that were different and correct. Could have increased my score by quite a bit lol. Feel that i dun really deserve my grade given how some of the others did, which means must put in hell load of effort this quarter.
Had beauty world rehearsal after that in shoreland. Lost some props already, which means we must go out and replace them ugh, and need to get more props on top of that. sianz! going shopping this friday and saturday, most prob to chinatown and then belmont.
had econ 202 in the morn today. i hate early morning classes, but bo bian. lecturer seems alright, not too boring, but not too interesting either. Oh well, this should be an easy course, hopefully doesnt take up too much time. Have terrible time scheduling this quarter, with classes early in the morn and late in the evening. And im the kind of person that doesnt get work done in between, as the past 2 days have shown. shit. Need to start taking 3o min intervals and milking them for all they are worth.
had complex variables immediately after that. Indian soft-spoken prof, who covered hell load of material on the first day. filled up 5 pages of notes already, and there were several parts i din understand. This class gonna require a hell load of work, considering that there are 3rd year students in graduate analysis taking it. omg ... oh well, nothing to complain abt. Just stick my head in and get it done. So glad that there is no reading class, but with the amount of maths i need to read, guess there would be no difference.
stat 251 in the afternoon. This class is quite simple at the start, just 'basic' counting techniques, though it would go into dearrangements and PIE. Should be fun, and relatively easy. With any luck wouldn't require much work lol. Theres like 100 pple in this class, some of whom i recongnize. TK taking this one with me too :) Oh yea, labelled my notebooks, but used the wrong ones for complex variable and stats. damn, need to relable them or something.
Attended a lecture on fractals after that. Was very interesting, covered alot of ground. Good thing i had a bit of background from reading a book on universality back in army, so i vaguely understood what was going on. The physics was too complicated, the maths bordering on the wrong side of understandable. Caught glismps of enlightenment, at least now i know how to have non-integral dimensions (but dunno how to deal with them)
Then went to work on some problems from anal and complex variables with johnathon in the library. din really get far, but we proved a cool result about determinants... only problem is that its easy to understand from the n=3 case, but the general case is hard to write up. We were looking at determinants of square matrices with length n^2. :)
Oh yea, decidede that i should start latexing my homework to get used to the format, and increase my speed of doing so. Dunno how to express a matrix though, so that would be handwritten.
