Boston adventures

Hi there again

Right now I’m at Boston airport, awaiting my flight to Detroit. One thing I learnt here, is to book flights earlier, as that can help to reduce travel costs. And sometimes, waiting can be very costly.

Boston was great fun, though I would have appreciated that 1-2 more days. Stayed over at boon leong’s, was welcomed into his fragrant room and slept on a mattress on the floor. Apparently, scandalous TK and Kenneth both shared that mattress when they came over to stay, tsk tsk.

Went walking around Boston on Tuesday, with my Ipod plucked in. After plodding around the area for quite a while, I realized that I was no longer listening to myself, but always being distracted by the music. I have slowly grown accustomed to always having a tune in my head, which has shut off my inner voice. It’s now harder to converse with myself and talk things through. Sigh. I need to find my voice again. I’m thinking of giving my Ipod a rest for the time being, though it will still be used when I’m highly bored.

Ended up in borders after a while, in which I started reading a book. Read book 2 of a series by Margrat Weis, called ‘The Dragon’s Son’. Din finish it the first time around, so I had to go back another day to read it. Book 3 is out in hardcover, but they din have stock, hence was unable to read the ending. So sad. After that, I started on ‘The Crystal City’, part of the ‘Tales of Alvin Maker’ series by Orson Scott Card, the same guy that wrote ‘Ender’s Game’. The first is pure fantasy, the second is an alternative America where people have certain knacks. That’s my choice of books to read when I’m bored, which says something about how I think.

On Weds, I crashed some of boon’s classes. Artin’s algebra class was good, Riemann surfaces was un-understandable cos I din know the material, and his seminar class was just bad cos whatever the girl was talking about, I knew already. And she spent so long talking about so little. Not such an uncommon phenomenon actually.

Had Brazillian buffet at night with boon and Joanne. The food was alright, the company was better. Ended up with quite a bad stomachache halfway through dinner, which put a damper on my food consumption abilities. Walked Joanne back to Harvard, then took the train back to MIT. Went to sleep quite early, woke up at 4am, visited the throne, stayed awake till 7, then slept till 12. Feeling much better already. I’ve learnt to commit the deed and then report it J

Went shopping on Thursday at Filene’s basement, which is a discount place that gives a further discount depending on how long the stuff has been in there. Had a bit of fun shopping, especially when I saw an overcoat that originally cost 300++, but I managed to get for 70. Also bought a jacket (to replace my current one), one white long sleeved shirt, one white short sleeve shirt, one pair of jeans, one pair of shorts. Total came up to 150, very worth it. I also discovered a nice brand of clothes called Kenneth Cole (that’s where the jackets and shirts came from). I love the material, the feel of the clothes on my skin. Will find out how much I like this set of clothes over the next few weeks. Sadly, it’s too expensive to buy unless there’s a massive discount. Oh well, hopefully my earning power would increase enough to match my interests.

After that, had dinner with the Singaporeans at a Chinese restaurant. Nicholas Tham and Yuri, Kah Keng and Sarah, Boon, Charmaine, Chirs Moh, Ruijie. The food was good and cheap, had great fish there too. Should have eaten more seafood in boston actually, but oh well… Shall get my fill of crabs when I get back to Singapore.

I love you all.
