Fruits basket
Finally finished watching 'Fruits Basket', kudos to chinsiong for getting it :) Its an extremely good anime, though the premise sounds dubious at the start. The last 3 episodes made this really really well!
The story starts off with a little girl (Tohru) who recently lost her mum to a car accident, and ends up living with the Souma family. The Souma family has a secret, part of which is that when some of them get hugged by members of the opposite sex, they turn into the zodiac animals. By now, some of you would be wtf am i watching such a dumb anime. Well, the plot development is very good, and as i said, the last 3 episodes went particurly well. I guess the timing, aka when i'm watching this, just happened to coincide too.
The issues that it deals with includes friendships, relationships, keeping secrets, pain and suffering, love, etc... A particurly striking moment, was when the rabbit Momiji revealed that his mum had her memory erased because she could not bear the trama of hugging her son and watching him turn into a rabbit. So now, he can only look on from afar, and observe his mum and his sister (his father is an actual souma member, and still knows). He cant get close to either, esp since he looks so similar to his sister that his mother would notice and wonder...
Another part was when Tohru was in a dilema, and her 2 closest friends were arguing over her. Girl 1 wanted to go up and comfort her, but Girl 2 was fighting against 1, saying that they couldn't comfort Tohru now, that Tohru needed to be somewhere else though she din want to be, but deep down inside Tohru knew that, that it wasn't comforting that Tohru needed, but courage to face facts/reality, etc ... An interesting idea actually...
Oh course, there were some episodes which i thought were pure dumb, but they did have some overall effect in developing the story. Or they were doing some other plot/character development that i din really care about.
